Freight securing for air exports from Luxembourg Airport.
Every export shipment by air must be screened before departure. Where possible, we organise non-invasive, IATA-compliant securing with an external partner. At the airport, we supervise the securing process, by X-ray or hand search, and make suggestions on proper handling.

HOW FREIGHT IS SECURED
Three methods to secure cargo for export through Luxembourg Airport
No single method fits every shipment. Size, materials and the works themselves decide which one applies, and here is how the three compare.
X-ray (in cargo zone)
The crate stays closed and is screened by X-ray in the cargo zone at Luxembourg Airport.

TECHNICAL SKILL
IATA-compliant airfreight securing, at the airport or through a certified partner.
Securing is a regulated step of air freight, not a formality. We match the method to the crate, keep every step in line with air freight security rules, and document it in the shipment record.
Off-airport sniffer dog screening
We organise non-invasive screening that is ideal for artworks with our external partner. If required, we handle road transport through a regulated agent to keep the cargo secured.
Security chain integrity
From screening to aircraft, the freight remains in the hands of a secured chain of trusted partners, certified by their respective Civil Aviation Authorities.
Documented compliance
Each securing step follows air freight security rules and is traceable in your own records.
FAQ
Quick answers about freight securing.
These cover what forwarders ask us most often about freight securing. Every shipment is different, so if something specific is on your mind, ask us directly and we will come back to you within 24 hours on business days.
Does freight securing apply to imports as well?
No. Air freight must only be secured at the airport of origin, before being loaded on the plane for export.
Why does the sniffer dog screening take place off airport?
The detection is performed at a partner facility in France, before the freight reaches Luxembourg Airport. That is exactly what makes it valuable. The crate arrives already screened and never has to be opened at the airport. The condition is that it then travels with a carrier holding regulated agent status, something Fortius can organise in a climate-controlled TAPA/TSR truck.
Is the sniffer dog always available or does it need booking?
Fortius coordinates the screening at our partner facility, depending on the requirements of your shipment. If your company is a regulated agent, we book a time slot for securing according to your transport plan. If we organise the road transport, we make sure timing works at every step of the process.
Which crates cannot go through X-ray?
Two limits apply. X-ray does not take crates above 150 cm in height, and it does not read through dense materials such as metal or stone. For those shipments the options are sniffer dog screening off airport or a manual control.
What does a manual control involve?
The crate is partially opened at the airport to collect samples for trace detection inside the packaging. In very limited cases, the artwork itself might need to be partially unpacked. Fortius supervises the handling, checks the crates are opened and closed properly and the work is repacked as it should be. It is the fallback when the shipment cannot be secured by X-ray or sniffer dog.
