How a typical import operation runs at Luxembourg Airport.

01

Plane arrival

The aircraft lands and the pallets are towed to the handling area. We are on the tarmac, with eyes on your freight from the moment it starts moving.

02

Pallet splitting

Your crates are split from the airline pallets. We check condition and count, and we make suggestions on proper handling at this critical point.

03

Truck loading

The crates are loaded onto the truck, yours or one we arranged. We assist the drivers and supervise until the truck leaves the airport.

And export, in mirror image.

01

Truck unloading

The truck arrives in the freight zone and we supervise the unloading. If the shipment still needs securing, we organise it at this stage.

02

Pallet build-up

Your crates are built up onto airline pallets. We stay close to check positioning, strapping and protection.

03

Plane departure

The pallets move airside and are loaded onto the aircraft. We stay until the plane departs from the airport.

Four reasons forwarders trust Fortius to supervise their shipments.

01

Field knowledge

We have worked this one airport for more than ten years, and nothing else. We know every agent, every dock and every procedure of the freight zone first-hand.

02

Physical presence

We do not track your freight from behind a screen. Our team stands next to the crates at every handling step, import and export.

03

Documented reporting

Every supervised operation is documented and reported back to you. Your own records show exactly what happened on the ground.

04

Courier handling

When a courier travels with the works, we organise their access to each handling step and the transfer between cargo and passenger terminal.

Quick answers to common questions about supervision.

These cover what forwarders ask us most often. Every shipment is different, so if something specific is on your mind, ask us directly and we will come back to you within 24 hours on business days.

How early should I notify Fortius before a flight arrival?

As soon as the booking is confirmed, send us the flight number, the AWB and the crate count. You get a fixed quote per shipment and a response within 24 hours on business days. As a rule of thumb, the sooner you put us in the loop, the better we are able to assist.

Do you work with carriers other than Cargolux?

Yes. Supervision covers any freight moving through Luxembourg Airport, whatever the airline. For transport bookings, we work with the carriers operating here, mainly Cargolux.

How are museum couriers handled in parallel?

Our Courier Management service covers access to every handling step, the transfer between the Cargo Center and the passenger terminal, plus hotel, restaurant and flight arrangements if needed. The courier can fly on the cargo flight with the works or take a passenger flight back.

In what format is the supervision report delivered?

Each supervised step is documented in writing, with supporting pictures taken at every step. We send you a preliminary PDF report after every stage and a final report for your own records after our work is done. We can also send instant updates via messenger apps and plug into any electronic supervision platform you might use.

Can my crates stay at the airport between two steps?

Your shipment can be stored at the airport either in the automated rack for airfreight pallets or the secure high-value cargo area. Storage at the airport is generally limited to 24 to 48 hours, counted during the work week, Monday to Friday, weekends and local public holidays are not counted. Export shipments arriving by truck cannot be unloaded earlier than 48 hours before planned flight departure. Import shipments that need to remain at the airport longer than 48 hours might incur storage charges from the handling agent.

Often combined with supervision.
